Dog Star Heroes Program
Dog Star Rescue is proud to have a special adoption program for the everyday heroes among us:
- Active military personnel and honorably discharged U.S. armed forces veterans*
- First responders (police officers, firefighters, EMTs, doctors & nurses)
*Proof of military service with a U.S. Military ID Card will be required by all military applicants, designating an honorably discharged veteran if you’re not currently active.

About the Program
Qualified adopters will receive:
- Half off your adoption fee*
- Up to $200 towards one 6-week required basic skills obedience training session post adoption (an approved list of trainers will be provided)
DS4V will pay 100% of the adoption fee for disabled veterans.
Veteran Dog Matchmaking
- Matchmaking is completed by pairing veterans with a specifically selected and evaluated rescue dog, based on the veteran’s personality and lifestyle to make the perfect companion match.
- While we cannot guarantee any dog will be suitable as a an emotional support animal, this program aims to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans.
Companion Dogs for Heroes Can
- Improve mental well-being
- Motivate veterans to get up and go out in the world
- Enhance disabled veterans transition into civilian life
Vaccination Clinics
Dog Star Rescue holds dog and cat vaccination/wellness clinics which are 100% free for veterans – our way of thanking you for your service. Information about upcoming dates and details around these clinics will be posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
